“OVERSEAS NEW YORK”

The OVERSEAS NEW YORK is a liquid petroleum carrier – she is huge. I saw her in Port Tampa tied up on a sunny day. This is only the bow of the ship. It always amazes me how a small webbing of lines hold such a monstrous bulk. This ship travels all over the world. While the ship is very tightly rendered, the background is quite abstracted and the foreground loose and impressionistic.  It was recently at Art Center Sarasota Gallery in the juried show “UNCHARTED”.  Out of 270 entries, it was awarded an Honorable Mention by juror Tom Stephens.
